Lower 40 Records

August 2009

Its show time!

Posted on August 20, 2009

This weekend Atlanta will be graced with not one, but two Lower 40 bands performaning.  Details below, kiddies.  We will see you there!

Friday night, August 21st, Chris Unck and the Black Roses will be opening the Tom Collins reunion at the Earl.  Show starts at 9pm.  Ponderosa goes on after Chris, so be sure to get there early.  This reunion show will be a good one.  Ponderosa will bring their roots rock to the stage.  And Chris Unck will be backed by the one and only Carnivores which always leads to mayhem, Old Black Bacon style.  More details at the Earl’s website.

Saturday night, August 22nd, Night Driving in Small Towns is playing a house show in Decatur.  The staff hasn’t been to a house show in a while, so we are pretty stoked about this one.  Cousins will be playing with Night Driving and this should be a rockin’ good time with tons of new folks to enjoy it with.  You can get more details here.

Now you have plans for the weekend and we are looking forward to seeing you all out and about!!!!!

And as always, check out the calendar for more shows!!

Ridiculous!! Ridiculous!! is finally here….

Posted on August 18, 2009

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, after a long wait of a little over a year, we are every so proud to present to the world, Ridiculous!! Ridiculous!!.    This album is what music is all about.  From the stories the songs tell, to the noises you hear, to the hooks that snag the ear and stay there for days, he’s outdone himself.    We think Butch Walker summed it up best….

“I was listening to my music on shuffle while driving home late one night
from the studio, and Ruby comes on.. this is all I needed to hear to put
the rest of the record on and make my drive feel like I was as giddy as
a boy on his first date. I immediately phoned Chris to tell him. it’s
real good….”

So hit up Itunes, Emusic, Amazon, and just about any other digital outlet you can think of and pick it up.  You’ll be crunk on some ridiculousness before you know it…literally.

In case you missed it….

Night Driving was absolutely wonderful at Eddie’s Attic on Friday night. We arrived a little later than we had hoped to and were fearing the worst, i.e. walking into a quiet room, with few people, late. Its the worst. But, my oh my! We had nothing of the sort greeting us. The room was completely packed! Not a seat in the joint or standing room for that matter. We grabbed the last two spots, sadly by the exit door which created a few problems, but who cares. And the room was anything but “quiet”. Night Driving played mostly new tracks from their upcoming album and for those of you who don’t know, the band’s sound is migrating from the folkier sounds of yore into a bit heavier, more intricate rock vibe that is no-doubt, some of their best work yet.

Every time we see them play, they are even better than before and bring something new. We were blown away. And judging by the “awwwww, no” response of the crowd when the band said they only had two more songs, we are thinking they felt the same way.

You can catch the band at a house show in Decatur on Saturday night, August 22 and then again at the Earl with Fruit Bats on September 6.

Check the calendar for more info.

Night Driving @ Eddie’s on Friday!!

Posted on August 13, 2009

Eddie’s Attic has so graciously decided to open its doors and its stage to our very own Night Driving in Small Towns. The band is opening for Jackson County Line on August 14 over in Decatur. Eddie’s Attic is a listening room like no other.

That being said, this is a perfect environment for the glorious vocals of Ms. Andi Rogers. They are sure to be even more captivating than usual as they won’t be drenched in smoke or loud talking. And no doubt the boys will make some sweet harmonies vocally and instrumentally.

What a way to start the weekend! Doors open at 6:30 pm and show starts at 8pm.

More info here www.eddiesattic.com.

We have more Lower 40 news that you can shake a stick at, kiddies! And in honor of back to school, get out your pencils and take notes. There will be a test on this material. Make sure your thinking cap is on tight! We’ve got shows, albums, and merch all headed your way, so you are going to want to pay attention!

First up, Chris Unck and the Black Roses (which this show will be Atlanta’s own, Carnivores) will be in full force at the Earl on August 21. The guys will be opening up for The Tom Collins at their reunion show. This night is going to be for the history books, so don’t miss it. More info at www.badearl.com.

Don’t forget!!!! Ridiculous!! Ridiculous!! , the latest musical creation from Chris Unck and the Black Roses, in all its digital glory, will be out in the land of the internets on August 18. We will be posting a list soon of all the digital outlets that will be selling the album, ringtones, etc. so you will be able to find the album with ease. It will of course be available at the usual outlets, but we want to get you the skinny on things that are not the norm as well. Butch Walker is hooked on the album, and you will be too. August 18………….

Next show on the list, Night Driving in Small Towns will be sharing the stage with Sub Pop’s very own, Fruit Bats. It all goes down at the Earl on September 6. Death Vessel is on the bill as well. Fruit Bats has a new album, it came out today actually, and if you haven’t heard these guys, you should. Night Driving is honored to be playing with them and we can’t wait for this show. The night will be drenched in bliss pop for sure. More info at www.badearl.com. And you can buy the poster over at the Lower 40 store. We have two slightly different versions for you to choose from. Rian did a fantastic job, as usual.

And another reminder, Let the Lead Fly, the long awaited new release from Wrinkle Neck Mules hits stores on September 22. Stay tuned for more info on that.

We are going to be adding new merch and having some killer sales on things coming up soon, so keep an eye peeled for a rad deal on tshirts, posters, and more at the Lower 40 Store. And as an aside, if you aren’t following us on Twitter (@lower40records), well you are missing out.

Right on boys and girls! Study hard! We don’t want you to fail this test. And maybe we will see you at a show or two soon! That’s extra credit.
