March 2010

We made it back alive…barely.

Posted on March 22, 2010

Oh SXSW, you did it to us again.  Our brains were melted by about a million things and its ever so hard to come back to the land of the living.  But we are doing our best. Our day 3 turned out to be a doozie.  We were almost tackled by security at the Perez Hilton party.  We saw a great set from New Roman Times that night too.  Wow.  The 40 Watt party was awesome.  Twin Tigers sounded bad ass.  Venice Is Sinking was remarkable as always.  etc., etc., etc.  We wrapped the week up with a stellar line up at the Lady Lake park:  She & Him, Deer Tick, Lucero, and Justin Towns Earl.  All of them at once is hard to even comprehend, much less watch.  It was glorious.  We could have done without the 40 degree weather, but for the most part, we didn’t notice until we removed ourselves from the crowd.  AMAZING WEEK.

Thanks to all of those cats who entertained us with their talents. Be it witty banter, musical talent, mad on stage sexy skills, bad outfits, smart remarks, and/or overall character, we thank you for it from the bottom of our hearts.  And a special shout out goes to the guy who yelled “Play something from your album that didn’t suck” to Deer Tick.  We are still laughing about that (mostly because he was DEAD serious).  We will be posting videos soon.  Until then, enjoy the pictures and we will enjoy the memories……until next year SXSW.

SXSW: Day 2 = WHAT?!?!

Posted on March 20, 2010

Our second day at SXSW has left us filled with oodles of happy memories and songs in our heads.  We zipped from one side of town to the other in search of things like tacos and Real Estate and Mayer Hawthorne, early in the day.  We found ourselves later in the day over at the We Put the A in Austin party and oh my, were we glad we did.  Mermaids, The Judies, and Ocha La Rocha were all bringin’ what they do best and geeeezzzz, it was good.  We made new friends, said hello to old ones, and littered Lower 40 flyers everywhere. We spotted Sondre Lerche on the street and followed him (we just happened to have the Handy Cam on when he was spotted.  We’re like the paparazzi yo.)

The night was spent cruising around from place to place and ended with listening to the XX outside of the Central Presbyterian Church.  We are pretty sure it was magical in there.  Outside was rather lovely, so we can only imagine.  All in all, it was a day for holdin’ it down for the A…except for the whole lines thing.  It was an epic pain in the ass last night.  O-V-E-R it.  But SXSW, we still love you.  Day 3…we are planning it now and our brains are already overflowing.  Stay tuned….and as always, uploading photos is not working.

SXSW: so far, so very very good!!

Its only been a day and a half, and as usual, Austin has found multiple ways to blow our minds.  We’ve ran into familiar faces as we bustle through the packed streets, gotten a sun burn waiting in line for Fader Fort wristbands, dropped flyers in a hat, with a dollar of course, as a band played on the street,  blew it out at a house party on Cole Street, and snacked on plantains and empanadas (while drinking Coke out of a glass bottle.  Why is it so much better in a glass bottle???).    So needless to say, today promises more adventures and killer rock n’ roll.  J. Roddy Walston and the Business blew our minds yesterday.  And apparently Colin Hanks and Gideon Yago’s too!!  Wish you were here!!! Pics to come soon…bandwidth in Austin can be frustrating.

On tap for today, more She and Him stalking attempts, We Put the A in Austin party (gotta support our local dears),  more Real Estate, and fingers crossed we will finally see the XX (since we bailed on the ped bridge set last night) and a million other things.  But, its gonna be good…we can feel it.  And if you aren’t following our minute by minute tweets (which are often hilarious), you should.  They never cease to entertain/amaze/baffle.  Jump on Twitter and follow us @lower40records.  You’ll love it!!
